Take the stage at new theatre school in Blacon
9th March 2022
Performing arts will be taking centre stage when a new theatre school launches in Blacon.
The school is aimed at young people aged 11-19 and will cover a range of theatrical skills, including acting, character development, voice training, singing, dancing and stage management.
The project is being run by wellbeing group Better Together Chester, with support from Avenue Services.
It will be based at Blacon Adventure Playground, in Kipling Road, with the first session taking place from 4-6pm on Friday, 18 March. There is no charge and everyone is welcome to attend, though places must be booked in advance.
The theatre school is led by Better Together Chester chair Simon Hughes, who has a background in professional acting and has previously worked with Theatr Clwyd, in Mold.
He said: “I’m really excited to be launching this new performing arts offering, which will complement existing services already available to young people in Blacon.
“We’ll be offering the opportunity to experience many aspects of theatre in a relaxed and friendly environment, and to learn how enjoyable, rewarding and fun it can be.”
Chris Leicester, neighbourhood partnerships manager at Avenue Services, added: “We’ve worked with Better Together Chester on other projects for some time, and the group has brought some real benefits to the local community through its fantastic work.
“This promises to be another example of that and we’re very pleased to be supporting the project and hosting it at Blacon Adventure Playground.”

Avenue Services, which is a not-for-profit organisation, is a joint venture between Sanctuary and Cheshire West and Chester Council.
